The highlight for every book printer - the printing of the first proofs. After long preparations, SachsenDruck Plauen GmbH organized a small press conference in cooperation with the ABORA project in Plauen to celebrate the print proof worthily today. The managing director Kai-Uwe Groß invited to his print shop today.
The last few weeks have been stressful at Weltbuch Verlag in Dresden, where we implemented the last corrections and improvements with publisher Dirk Kohl. The print data then went to SachsensDruck Verlag in Plauen, where the new ABORA IV book will be printed today and tomorrow. To fight the resistance in times of Corona Virus & Co. was enormous, because the supply chains from the paper manufacturer to the printing ink had to be organized and provided so that we could meet the deadline.
It is always astonishing to see how everyone works together from an idea to implementation and finished product, so that a great product is created in the end. Another important step was made today because the proof is literally the last adjustment to produce an attractive book. If the print master makes a mistake here (color mixture or paper sorting etc.), a less high-quality product can also come out at the end of a long production chain. Fortunately, the specialists in Plauen did everything right.
The press can print more than 500 sheets of cardboard-sized cardboard in just 4 minutes. The 64 double pages are created at breathtaking speed. The air is not only full of the noise of the rollers and conveyor belts, but also of the printing ink, which is, however, biodegradable and therefore non-toxic.
In this way, more than 2.5 tons of thin cardboard can be printed with the history of the ABORA IV mission. It is about much more than just a reed boat adventure trip. Rather, we sailed an ancient trade route last summer, which was probably already used in the times of the Varna culture - i.e. more than 6,000 years ago. Around 2,000 years later, the ancient Egyptians appeared on the Black Sea to import valuable raw materials from there across the Aegean to the distant Nile valley. These and many other exciting stories will be found in the elaborate A3 book. But before it is available, the masses of printed cardboard still have to be folded, glued and joined together. It will take the longest.
The Corona virus postponed our official book presentation on April 7, 2020 for an indefinite period. We can only hope that the crisis will calm down soon enough so that we can quickly deliver the book to interested readers.
