The ABORA-Expeditions
The ABORA expeditions represent the logical continuation of the DILMUN research series. The name is derived from the ancient Canarian deity Abora, who was once worshipped on step pyramids in Tenerife and La Palma. Building on decades of work with reed boats, ABORA is dedicated to the practical verification of early maritime trade and cultural contacts on the open sea. The aim of the projects is to use prehistorically reconstructed reed boats to empirically test the seaworthiness, steerability, and range of prehistoric expedition routes under real conditions.
