Der Rumpf wurde erstmals von der Familie Limachi am Titikakasee in Bolivien gebaut. Sie hatten auch f\u00fcr Thor Heyerdahl die ber\u00fchmten Schilfboote RA II &amp; TIGIRS gefertigt.<\/p>\n<p>Die wichtigste technische Neuerung bestand in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>einer ver\u00e4nderten Mastposition, weiter nach vorne verlagert<\/li>\n<li>einer optimierten Anordnung der Seitenschwerter an Bug und Heck<\/li>\n<li>einer insgesamt schlankeren und hydrodynamisch g\u00fcnstigeren Rumpfform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Der Bau orientierte sich weiterhin an v\u00f6lkerkundlichen und arch\u00e4ologischen Vorbildern, insbesondere an Schilfboottraditionen aus:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>dem Titikakasee mit den bolivianischen Aymaraindianern (Familie Limachi)<\/li>\n<li>dem pr\u00e4historischen Niltal (Felsbildern der Negade-Kultur zw. 3.600 \u2013 3.100 v. Die Expedition zielte darauf ab, gr\u00f6\u00dfere Distanzen gezielt und kontrolliert zur\u00fcckzulegen. Die Seereise startete in Alexandria (\u00c4gypten) mit Kurs in Richtung Libanon. Von Beirut setzte das Flo\u00df quer und gegen den Wind nach Larnaca auf Zypern \u00fcber. Dieser T\u00f6rn belegte, dass der Segler nicht nur quer, sondern auch gegen den Wind \u00fcber gr\u00f6\u00dfere Distanzen segeln konnte. Noch herausfordernder war der R\u00fcckweg von Limassol nach Alexandria. 16 Tage lang kreuzte die ABORA II gegen den aus der \u00c4g\u00e4is aus NW wehenden Meltemi auf.
