_module_preset=&#8220;default&#8220; global_colors_info=&#8220;{}&#8220;]<\/p>\n<p>Mit der Expedition ABORA III sollte erstmals in der Neuzeit experimentell \u00fcberpr\u00fcft werden, ob ein vorzeitliches Seefahrzeug den Atlantik auf der deutlich anspruchsvolleren Nordroute entlang des Golfstromsystems von der Neuen in die Alte Welt \u00fcberqueren konnte.<\/p>\n<p>W\u00e4hrend Thor Heyerdahl bereits Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts nachgewiesen hatte, dass transatlantische Reisen mit den Passatwinden von Ost nach West technisch m\u00f6glich sind, hielt er eine R\u00fcckreise \u00fcber die raue Nordroute f\u00fcr grunds\u00e4tzlich undurchf\u00fchrbar. Dieses Paradigma bildete den zentralen Ausgangspunkt der Zielsetzung von ABORA III.<\/p>\n<p>Bereits die Expedition ABORA II (2002) hatte gezeigt, dass Hin- und R\u00fcckfahrten mit pr\u00e4historisch rekonstruierbaren Schilfbooten prinzipiell realisierbar sind. Die von Dr. Swetlana Balabanova (1992\u20131997) nachgewiesenen altamerikanischen Phytoalkaloide \u2013 insbesondere Nikotin und Kokain \u2013 in \u00e4gyptischen Mumien werden bis heute mit dem Argument zur\u00fcckgewiesen, pr\u00e4historische Seefahrzeuge seien zu primitiv gewesen, um den st\u00fcrmischen Nordatlantik zu befahren und entsprechenden Fernhandel zu erm\u00f6glichen.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8220;4.27.5&#8243; _module_preset=&#8220;default&#8220; global_colors_info=&#8220;{}&#8220;]<\/p>\n<p>Dar\u00fcber hinaus standen folgende Fragestellungen im Mittelpunkt:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Driftexperimente zur Langzeitschwimmf\u00e4higkeit von Kulturpflanzen und Fr\u00fcchten<\/li>\n<li>die \u00dcberpr\u00fcfung, ob Samen und Fr\u00fcchte (u. a. Tabak, Baumwolle, Flaschenk\u00fcrbis) den Atlantik ohne menschliches Zutun h\u00e4tten \u00fcberqueren k\u00f6nnen<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Insbesondere das stark m\u00e4andrierende Golfstromsystem mit seinen gro\u00dfen, energiereichen Wasserwirbeln (engl. <em>eddies<\/em>) galt unter Seehistorikern f\u00fcr ein Schilfboot als unbefahrbar. Im Mittelpunkt der Weiterentwicklung standen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eine erh\u00f6hte strukturelle Stabilit\u00e4t des Schilfrumpfes,<\/li>\n<li>eine optimierte, walzenf\u00f6rmige Rumpfarchitektur,<\/li>\n<li>sowie eine verbesserte Abstimmung von Mast, Segelfl\u00e4che und Seitenschwertern zur Bew\u00e4ltigung von Gegenwindkursen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Das Boot wurde erneut aus Totora-Schilf gefertigt (<em>Schoenoplectus californicus ssp. totora<\/em>), einer geographischen Unterart der europ\u00e4ischen Teichsimse.
